PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

2004 to Present - Owner/Operator, Sailing and Self-Awareness for Women and Their Shipmates.  Presented large group seminars "When Mars and Venus Go Boating" discussing the difference between male and female realities and how this manifests on a boat.  Conducted individual and small group hands-on seminars and classes on Flicka, my 32' Allied Seawind ketch, as well as teaching on private vessels.  Chartered aboard Restless, a Cape Dory 40, in the Spanish Virgin Islands.

1988 to 2003 - Owner/Operator, Herizen™ Sailing for Women Inc., personalized sailing and self-awareness instruction, on a a variety of sailboats up to 45 feet in British Columbia (Vancouver & Nanaimo), California (Sausalito & Santa Cruz), and Mexico (Loreto, La Paz, Baja.)  Planned, organized, and implemented all aspects of a unique small business.  Developed, wrote and edited course materials including notes, diagrams and teaching aids as well as authoring Sailing in Balance: A Boat and Sail Handling Manual for Women & Their Shipmates.

2000 - Skipper and Instructor, aboard 37' C&C, Tethra, from Maui to Honolulu, HI.

1996 to 1998 - Instructor, Community Education, Malaspina University-College, Nanaimo, B.C.  Developed, planned, wrote course materials and taught 1-day courses, VHF Marine Radio for Women, and 2-day courses, Coastal Navigation for Women.

1993 to 1998 - Instructor, Community Education, Malaspina University-College, Nanaimo, B.C.  Developed, planned, wrote course materials and taught 4-day courses, Boat and Sail Handling for Women.

1991 to 1993 - Instructor, on contract to West Marine, Watsonville, CA, teaching 3-day live-aboard courses to West Marine female staff aboard the company owned Santa Cruz 40.

1987 - Instructor, for Womanship, cruise and learn sailing courses for women on a variety of 35-45' sailboats, Annapolis, Maryland.

1987 - Captain/First Mate/Delivery/Maintenance Crew aboard a variety of private and charter sailing vessels in the Caribbean and eastern US

2001 to 2004 - Owner/skipper aboard 29' Islander sailboat, cruising Florida and the Bahamas in the winters

1983 to 1991 - Owned, lived aboard and single-handed Yamaha 30 sailing sloop. Also owned 9' sailing dinghy. Did most maintenance, repairs and installations myself. Extensive sailing in Gulf & San Juan Islands & Sunshine Coast (BC & Washington State.)

1985 - Founder's Trophy, Honourable Mention, Outstanding Achievement & Seamanship Award, Centennial Sailing Club, Port Moody, BC; completed RNSA (Royal Naval Sailing Association) Singlehanded Race

1979 - Started sailing on a regular basis in Papua New Guinea, South Pacific, on a variety of boats; owned 24' wooden Vanderstaadt sailboat
